October Book Review
Looking for your next great read? Here are my list of favorites from October!
This month, I read a variety of books from fiction to cooking and home organizing. I have been staying in the Hamptons for October and the weather is finally turning cooler. Snuggling on the couch with my dachshund Freddie, a great book, and a warm cup of tea has been one of my favorite activities.
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I loved this book. I don’t often lean towards thrillers, but I found this novel on the NY Times Bestseller list and it looked fascinating. I was right. The writing was incredible and painted the most vivid pictures. The story takes place on an island off of Ireland where a famous couple gets married. A murder takes place at the wedding and the story leads up to the death. Definitely not as spooky as I first thought, but a great and suspenseful novel nevertheless. (Purchase Here)
The Home Edit: Life by Clea Shearer & Joanna Teplin
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I watched the Netflix Home Edit show in under a week. I love organizing and cleaning, so this book was perfect for a cozy read. Everything about this book is great: the photos, the chapter organization, and even the page color choices. Their organization tips are amazing. I learned to use old wine bottles to keep my boots upright and to have a back stock organization area. Genius! (Purchase Here)
The End of Her by Shari Lapena
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Another thriller - a odd book preference for me this month. This book was sitting at eye level at my local bookstore in Sag Harbor, and it was another good choice. The story follows a husband and new father accused of murdering his first wife. The book takes such a turn at the end and the narration is amazing. (Purchase Here)
Modern Comfort Food by Ina Garden
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Ina Garden’s new book is a perfect addition to any kitchen. I love her cookbooks because the photography is stunning. Each page has a delicious and easy meal, often with ingredients you would have at home. I can’t wait to try all of these recipes (especially the chocolate chip cookies recipe and shishito peppers recipe) when I get back to LA. (Purchase Here)
The Return by Nicolas Sparks
⭐️/5
I hated this book. In fact, I can’t believe I finished it. This is a typical romance novel written by the award winner Nicolas Sparks, so I had reasonable expectations for a decent book. The main character was creepy, full of himself, and a bit of a stalker. I don’t think Sparks realized the predatory narcissistic male protagonist he created. A major plot twist kept me reading, but I recommend you don’t even start. (Purchase Here 🤢)
